Our Design Ethos - Essentialism at Its Core

Since our beginnings, Rushfaster has been focused on designing and building gear for travel and everyday carry, guided by a simple idea: essentialism. Over time, it’s become a big part of who we are — so much so that Rushfaster is now closely associated with essentialist design.

To us, essentialism means everything you need, nothing you don’t. Every detail has a reason to exist. If it doesn’t genuinely add value or improve the experience, it doesn’t make the cut.

We design for travellers and urban explorers — people always on the move, whether commuting through the city or heading off on longer journeys. Gear that works when you need it, gets out of the way when you don’t, and adapts easily to whatever the day looks like.

For Daniel, Founder, this comes down to clarity of intent:

“Everything that makes it into the product is there for a reason, and it’s done really, really well.”

For us, essentialism is about having a “Goldilocks” feature set — just what you need, nothing you don’t. It’s not about chasing features or over-designing, but about balance: function versus minimalism, adaptability versus weight — and constantly working through those tensions in every decision we make. By removing unnecessary complexity, we reduce weight and create a more intuitive experience. Essentialism is the lens we use to design everything.

For Hadrien, Product Design Director, it comes down to how things behave in use:

“We balance things in a way that feels natural, simple to understand, and easy to use — and it needs to be discreet when it’s not in use.”

Essentialism isn’t about isolated features. It’s about systems — gear where every element works together as one cohesive whole. We’re not trying to create overly clever pockets or complex mechanisms. Instead, we design with clarity, restraint, and purpose.

Adaptability is key. Our gear should respond to different moments throughout the day without ever getting in your way. Take the side pockets of the Rushfaster Travel Backpack: when not in use, they disappear into a minimal silhouette. When needed, they expand to carry bulk — like a water bottle — while smaller items stay secure through tension, similar to a jeans pocket. Everything stays in place, even in motion.

We think carefully about every interaction: packing, accessing essentials, and moving from A to B. The goal is to create just enough functionality to be useful and reliable, without ever overwhelming the experience.

That balance between simplicity and adaptability is what defines the way we design — and the gear we build.
